JD Cymru Premier champions, The New Saints FC, are delighted to announce the signing of defender Harrison McGahey from Oldham Athletic.
McGahey, 28, enjoyed spells with the likes of Scunthorpe United, Rochdale, Sheffield United and Blackpool prior to his time at Oldham Athletic, making over 200 appearances across the English Championship, League One and League Two.
As a formidable centre-back widely-recognised for both his defensive ability and leadership skills, McGahey is an incredibly strong addition to this season’s squad as the club looks to compete on all fronts across the 2024/25 campaign.
With the side’s UEFA Champions League qualifying fixtures now just around the corner, McGahey’s ability and experience will give the squad a huge boost in their push to bring European football to Park Hall Stadium next season.
Speaking on his delight at signing for the club, McGahey said:
“I’m very excited to have joined The New Saints FC as we look to create history over the 2024/25 season.
“There’s a rich history of success here and I’m hoping I can contribute to bringing future success to the club, both domestically and in Europe.
“I can already see how much quality there is in the squad and I can’t wait to get going. There’s a couple of enormous fixtures on the horizon and we need to be well-prepared to make sure we get the result we want.”
Sharing his thoughts on the club’s new signing, Head Coach, Craig Harrison, said:
“I’ve watched Harrison since December last year and he brings a bit more experience to the group.
“He’s got a really good pedigree, having played in the English Championship with Sheffield United and other clubs at a really good level, so we’re now looking at a bit more competition in some key areas.
“He can play centre-back, right-back or left-back, even as a deep-lying midfielder as well, so we’ve got a bit of flexibility there – making the squad more flexible is something I’ve tried to do this season.
“It’s a really good signing and one we’re really pleased to get over the line.”
