A record-breaking result
There have been a number of big victories for The New Saints in top-flight Welsh football over the years, but the 11-0 against Aberystwyth Town is now the club’s highest home league win.
It was not only an excellent result but, as you would expect, an impressive performance as well.
Since his return to the hot seat at Park Hall, Craig Harrison has presided over 7-0, 6-2 and 5-0 wins (Cardiff Met FC, Flint Town United and Bala Town respectively) but the result against the Seasiders is by far the icing on the cake thus far.
Who do you leave out?
No doubt, one of Craig Harrison’s biggest headaches when it comes to selecting a starting XI, is not only which players you select but who do you leave out?
It’s very much like that writing this article because, without exception, every single player that featured in the game is worthy of a mention.
That was the case come the choice for the post-match interview as well. On many occasions, the decision is an easy one but there were so many options this time round as to who we chose for the chat on the pitch following the final whistle.
Danny Davies gets the post-match interview nod
In the end, it was one of our many versatile players that we interviewed post-match, Danny Davies. One of three players to score a brace of goals on the night – the others being Adrian Cieslewicz and Gwion Dafydd – Danny scored the first two.
The opener was always going to be a key goal because we know that sides come to Park Hall with a game plan, which invariably revolves around containment.
With 13 minutes on the clock, it was anything but Friday the thirteenth for Danny, as his header from a Ryan Brobbel corner broke the deadlock.
We had to wait twenty-four minutes though for the next one when, from close-range, Davies put The New Saints 2-0 up.
Goals galore and spread throughout the side
Although there were eleven goals, no player scored a hat-trick. In fact, there were eight different names on the scoresheet .
They were also spread throughout the side as well with two from defenders, four from the midfield and five from forwards.
Four of the goals were scored by substitutes which highlights the fact that when changes were made, the fluidity of the performance continued.
Another clean sheet
Naturally, the spotlight will be on the goals scored but it’s also important to focus on the other end as well.
With fifteen JD Cymru Premier games played, The New Saints has conceded just five in the process.
A solid defence? Absolutely.
However, let’s not forget the contribution that is made by the other players on the pitch.
With the score at 2-0, the visitors were awarded a corner which resulted in all eleven TNS players making their way into the penalty area.
An immediate break saw Adam Wilson go on a superb run as he turned in the opponents’ area and beat the ‘keeper to extend the lead.
