The New Saints Women are delighted to announce the signing of Nieve Rowbottom, who becomes the club’s fifth addition of the summer window.
The 24-year-old is a versatile player, capable of operating as a central defender or in midfield, and arrives at Park Hall with an impressive pedigree.
Having previously represented both Swansea City and Cardiff Met, she spent the last two seasons with Cardiff City, where she quickly established herself as a key figure within the squad.
During her time in the Welsh capital, Rowbottom made her senior debut in the UEFA Women's Champions League against FC Twente, before going on to make 50 appearances and score five goals for the Bluebirds.
Her contributions helped Cardiff City to the Genero Adran Premier title in the 2024/25 season, as well as back-to-back Bute Energy Welsh Cup triumphs. As a reward for her strong performances, she was named as the club’s Player of the Season for the 2025/26 campaign.
Speaking after completing the signing, head coach Kieran Lee-Birch said: "Since myself and Jack came in back in January, we ended up playing Cardiff on four occasions, and we really respected the level of Nieve. She was a very difficult opponent to play against due to her physicality, athleticism, and reading of the game.
"When we understood that she may possibly be relocating, we wanted to act quickly, and we know she's had a lot of interest from different clubs, particularly at higher levels in England. It's a fantastic signing for us, and after speaking to her in recent weeks, we know we've got a really professional player who's mature and has so much experience.
"In recent years, she's been regarded as one of the league's most successful players and best defenders, so we're delighted to sign a winner and a great person."
Discussing her decision to join The New Saints, Rowbottom said: "I'm really excited for this new chapter with The New Saints.
“Having faced them many times over the last couple of seasons, I've always admired the way this club is run and the ambition behind it.
“I can't wait to meet my new teammates, get started on the training pitch, and hopefully help bring more success this year."
