The New Saints FC is extremely pleased to announce the signing of Declan McManus, who joins from Scottish Championship side, Dunfermline Athletic FC, with a transfer fee of £60,000.
The 26-year-old, Glasgow-born striker, began his professional career with Aberdeen FC. Predominantly, his football has been played north of the English border, with further permanent deals at Dunfermline Athletic (twice) and Ross County, as well as several loan spells at Alloa Athletic, Falkirk, Greenock Morton and Raith Rovers.
In addition, at the start of the 2015/16 season he moved to English Football League One club, Fleetwood Town, where he signed a two-year contract.
On an international level, McManus has represented Scotland up to, and including, U-21s, where he played two games, against France and Iceland.
Signing a two-year deal with The New Saints, the club’s head coach, Anthony Limbrick, commenting on the second addition to his squad this season, told us:
“We’ve been watching Declan for a while now and are delighted to finally get the deal over the line.
We really think he’ll strengthen our forward line, and give us different options at the top of the pitch. More importantly though, he’s a good character who will work hard for the team.”
There will be a full and in-depth interview with the striker in due course, but for now McManus expressed his delight at putting pen-to-paper with TNS:
“I’m delighted to be here and really looking forward to the big challenges ahead, both personally and collectively, in Europe and also trying to get the club back to the top of the JD Cymru Premier.
I came here too with the hope of winning trophies, and helping the club progress on the European stage, and hopefully I can score the goals that can help the club and the team achieve that.
Once the clubs had agreed a fee, and I had the opportunity to speak with the head coach and chairman, it very quickly became an easy decision for me to sign.
Their ambition was really impressive and matches my own. I know the club has a great history and I’m looking forward to helping add to that during my time here.”
Welcome to Park Hall, Declan, from all of us at The New Saints FC.
