As we get back to JD Cymru Premier business following a league break of three weeks, the visit to Latham Park on January 10 is still very fresh in the minds of TNS FC fans.
Although the visitors had the better of the opening half, Newtown still had their chances. In fact, right at the end of the first period they could have taken the lead, had it not been for Greg Draper being in the right place at the right time.
It was the reigning champions though who created the most opportunities, with the likes of Ryan Brobbel and Adrian Cieslewicz all going close. Come the break though, the deadlock was yet to be broken.
Just eleven minutes into the second-half, the opening goal came. Great work from Brobbel found the incoming Jon Rouledge, who fired home to give The New Saints the lead.
Four minutes into the final third of the game and it was 2-0. Again, the energetic Brobbel was involved, this time setting up Draper. At close range, the striker made no mistake as he smashed the ball home, giving the ‘keeper no chance.
The win ensured that Scott Ruscoe’s side extended the lead at the top of the table to four points. A margin that still remains, as we welcome Newtowen AFC to Park Hall this Friday (February 7).
