The donation, made through the generosity of club chairman Mike Harris, is a small way of supporting the work being done by Warriors Soccer Academy and helping their players prepare for the season ahead.

Football has a unique ability to bring people together, regardless of where they are in the world, and it is great to see the connection between two clubs who share a passion for the game.

Despite the thousands of miles between Oswestry and Stellenbosch, we hope this gesture helps to build a lasting relationship between the two clubs, with opportunities to share experiences and support each other in the future.

Speaking after the donation, The New Saints chairman Mike Harris said:

“Football has been a huge part of my life, and I’ve been very fortunate to experience so many wonderful things through the game. I believe that when you’re in a position to help others, however small that contribution might be, it’s important to do so.

“Stellenbosch is a very special place to me. It’s my home in South Africa, and I’ve developed some wonderful friendships there over the years. To be able to give something back to a community that means so much to me is a real pleasure.

“I don’t see this as doing anything extraordinary. We’ve simply been able to help a football team that shares the same passion and enthusiasm for the game that we have here at The New Saints.

“Sometimes we underestimate what something as simple as a football kit can mean. It’s about pride, identity and feeling part of something. When those players walk onto the pitch wearing their colours, they’re representing their teammates, their families and their community.

“Monde is a fantastic person, and I’ve got enormous respect for him and everyone involved with the Warriors. They’re winners, just like us, and they deserve every bit of encouragement and support they receive.

“What would make me happiest is seeing this friendship continue to grow. I would love both clubs to follow each other’s progress, celebrate each other’s achievements and hopefully inspire more people to get involved in football.

“The New Saints might be based in Oswestry and the Warriors in South Africa, but the values of football are universal. It’s about bringing people together, building friendships and making a positive difference wherever we can.

“I wish Monde, his players and everyone connected with the Warriors every success. We’re delighted to be able to help, and I hope this is just the beginning of a very special friendship.”

Monde Mpompo, chairman of Warriors Soccer Academy, added:

“Thank you very much. From Mike Harris and you, thank you very much, guys. This is unbelievable.”

Everyone at The New Saints wishes Warriors Soccer Academy all the very best for the upcoming season.
