It was a positive result in tricky conditions for The New Saints on Friday, as they made an immediate return to winning ways with a 3-0 victory against Flint Town United.
After Ben Clark opened the scoring with 19 minutes on the clock, Jordan Williams found the back of the net twice at the Essity Stadium to secure all three points for the league leaders – moving himself six goals clear in the race for this season’s golden boot in the process.
This weekend though, the Saints take a departure from JD Cymru Premier action, as they head to South Wales to continue their JD Welsh Cup defence.
Taking on Cardiff Met – the side who beat them 3-2 at Park Hall less than a fortnight ago – Craig Harrison’s side will be looking to exact a measure of revenge in the capital.
Despite the Archers securing some bragging rights with their recent win in Oswestry, The New Saints have proved difficult opposition for Ryan Jenkins’ side in recent seasons and have tasted victory on each of their last six visits to Cyncoed Stadium.
Having scored 24 goals while conceding just three, the visitors will be hoping to maintain that strong form as they continue their pursuit of silverware on all fronts and look to defend their domestic treble.
To reach this stage of the competition, Friday’s hosts were 5-1 victors over third-tier Taffs Well, while the Saints secured a hard-fought 2-1 win against Mold Alexandra thanks to Harvey Godsmark-Ford’s late goal.
For Friday’s third round encounter, the home side will be wearing burgundy shirts and socks with navy blue shorts, while the Saints will be in their traditional home kit of green and white hooped shirts, with green shorts and socks. The two goalkeepers will wear all-orange and all-turquoise respectively.
Jordan Harman is the referee, with Harry Hendricks and Cilan Thomas the two assistants. Dale Randall has been appointed fourth official, while Kim Fisher is the referee observer.
Tickets can be purchased HERE and are priced at £8 for adults, £5 for concessions and £2 for U16s. Kick-off is scheduled for 7:45pm.
