After navigating the potentially tricky hurdle of a trip to Caernarfon Town on Tuesday night, The New Saints face another difficult JD Cymru Premier test this weekend.
Visiting Park Hall on Saturday evening (October 11th) are Penybont, with the league’s top two sides set to square off for the second time this season.
That first meeting played at the DragonBet Stadium in August saw Craig Harrison’s side come away with the three points after a 2-0 victory, but the Bont have certainly found their form since that day.
As well as winning five of their last seven matches, Rhys Griffiths’ side haven’t lost since August 30th, so Saturday’s match is sure to play a key role in determining the destination of the JD Cymru Premier trophy come the end of the season.
The Saints themselves though are currently enjoying a superb run of form. They haven’t lost since a 3-0 defeat against Briton Ferry Llansawel on the opening day of the season, and have tasted victory in each of their last eight matches in all competitions.
Last year’s phase one fixture between the two sides at Park Hall produced plenty of drama, as the visitors went into the half-time break with a two-goal advantage thanks to a quick-fire double from James Crole.
The Saints showed their championship-winning mentality in the second, however, coming from 2-0 down to claim a dramatic 3-2 victory. Danny Redmond sealed the win for his side with a curling strike from just outside the penalty area in the 89th minute following earlier goals from Josh Pask and Danny Davies.
For this weekend’s encounter, The New Saints will be wearing their traditional home kit of green and white hooped shirts, with green shorts and socks. The visitors will take to the field in all-blue, while the goalkeepers will be in all-yellow and all-orange respectively.
Ryan Kenny is the referee, with Ian Bird and Jordan Christopher the two assistants. Alex Livesey will act as fourth official.
