The New Saints are pleased to confirm the signing of exciting winger Louis Phillips.

The 19-year-old is the second signing of the January transfer window and arrives at Park Hall from JD Cymru South side, Newport City.

A product of the Cardiff City Academy, Phillips spent 12 years with the Bluebirds having initially joined the club aged just six.

After leaving the English Championship club last summer, the teenager’s services were quickly acquired by his hometown team, and he’s been a key figure in the Steelmen’s first season in the second division.

Making 16 appearances in the current campaign, The Saints’ newest recruit has scored four goals and recorded three assists, and last December, was he was named as the JD Cymru South Player of the Month.

Speaking after his arrival at Park Hall, Phillips said: “I’m very excited to have the opportunity to sign for The New Saints and continue my development in the JD Cymru Premier. Everyone at the club has been very welcoming so far and I can’t wait to get going.”

Commenting on the signing, head coach, Craig Harrison, said: “Louis has a really good pedigree having come through the Academy system at Cardiff City, so he’s had a good grounding. He’s also tested himself in senior football with Newport City this season so it’s a great combination.

“Being technically good, quick and direct he has all the attributes and potential to be a TNS player. It’s great to welcome another exciting young Welsh player to the football club.”

Head of Coaching, Chris Seargeant, added: “Louis is a direct and pacy winger who we’re very excited to have join us here at The New Saints.

“He’s going to have a really big future in the game, but we’re also hoping he can help us at some stage during the run in this season. We’re delighted that he’s chosen us to continue his development, and it’s great to beat off a few South Wales-based sides to his signature.”

Louis will wear the number 26 shirt at Park Hall, and everyone at the club extends him a very warm welcome.
