It’s the final round of JD Cymru Premier phase one fixtures on Tuesday (January 14th), with The New Saints making the trip to the capital to take on Cardiff Metropolitan University. 

After a stoppage time winner against Newtown in their last league match, Craig Harrison’s side are in pole position ahead of the matchday 22 encounter, although Penybont remain hot on their tails sitting just one point behind.

With 48 points to their name, the defending champions have long been assured of a place in this season’s championship conference as we enter the business end of the 2024/25 campaign, but for Cardiff Met, their fate is still to be decided.

Although not mathematically certain of a top six finish, with 32 points and a goal difference of five, it would take the unlikeliest of scenarios to deny the Archers.

When the sides met at Park Hall on October 12th, The Saints responded in ideal fashion after suffering back-to-back home defeats, running out comfortable 3-0 winners thanks to an Evan Cadwallader own goal, plus strikes from Danny Davies and Aramide Oteh.

Looking at recent form, the JD Cymru Premier champions have won each of the last eight meetings between the pair (including a 3-1 victory in the third round of this season’s JD Welsh Cup), scoring 41 and conceding just five. In fact, you have to go all the way back to February 2023 to find the last time Ryan Jenkins’ side were on the right end of a result against TNS.

For Tuesday’s encounter, the home side will take to the field in burgundy shirts and socks with navy blue shorts, while The Saints will wear green and white hooped shirts, green shorts and green socks. The two goalkeepers will wear all-black and all-turquoise respectively.

Bryn Markham-Jones will referee the game and he will be assisted by Ian Bird and Ashley Davis. David Morgan is the appointed fourth official and Craig Greenstock the referee observer.
