It’s the fourth different competition in as many games for The New Saints, as we head south to take on Cardiff Metropolitan University FC in the JD Welsh Cup, on Saturday (November 16).
The hosts have progressed thus far courtesy of an impressive 1-0 win on the road at Penybont, while the visitors triumphed 16-0 at home against Llangollen Town.
The third round fixture this weekend is the second time that the sides have met this season, with The New Saints winning 3-0 last month at Park Hall in the league.
On that occasion, an early own goal from Evan Cadwallader put TNS ahead in the third minute. A Danny Davies strike midway through the first-half established a comfortable lead at the break.
Rem Oteh put the game beyond the visitors’ reach when he wrapped up the scoring in the 63rd minute.
As far as this weekend’s competition is concerned, the clubs previously clashed horns at last season’s semi-final stage. Played at Newtown AFC’s Latham Park, a Tom Vincent brace stunned the holders (at that time) of the trophy, as Cardiff Met found themselves 2-0 up with thirty-seven minutes played.
However, a Declan McManus hat-trick, two from Brad Young and a solo goal from Adrian Cieslewicz ensured a 6-2 victory, when Tom Owen blew his whistle for the final time.
The New Saints has won the last seven games between the sides, scoring 38 goals in the process and conceding four. Prior to the septet of victories, Cardiff Met came from 2-0 down on February 11, 2023, to beat The New Saints 3-2 at Cyncoed Campus in the JD Cymru Premier. It turned out to be the only defeat of the season for Craig Harrison’s team.
The officials for this Saturday are as follows: Ryan Kenny (referee), Harry Hendricks and James Sheils (assistant referees) and Ieuan Lewis (fourth official). Gary Hughes is the referee observer.
The Students will be in burgundy shirts and socks and navy blue shorts, with The New Saints wearing green and white hooped shirts, green shorts and socks.
