After impressing as part of The New Saints U19s side which completed an invincible season, Nathan Doforo has signed a professional contract with The New Saints FC. 

Much like the first-team, the under 19s enjoyed their fair share of silverware last season, with 18-year-old Doforo playing a key role in helping his side lift the Cymru Premier Development League North title.

The Saints would then go on to defeat Haverfordwest County 4-1 in the National final back in May – a game in which the youngster played the full 90 minutes.

All in all, the left-sided defender made 27 appearances for Simon Smith’s side throughout the 2023/24 campaign, notching up 16 assists, while finding the back of the net twice in the process.

As a reward for his impressive displays, Doforo will continue his development with the JD Cymru Premier champions at senior level after signing a one-year professional contract following the team’s return for pre-season training.

Head of Coaching and first-team assistant, Chris Seargeant, said: “Nathan can be very proud of what he’s done over the last two years on our scholarship programme. Since he’s come in with the first team, he’s been outstanding.

“There were some very tough decisions this year with the U19s being so successful, but we feel Nathan has shown he can close that gap on what is now an incredibly competitive first team squad. 

“He now joins a strong group of eight young professional players aged 20 or under that have played in the Academy, U19s or come through the scholarship, which is very exciting for us and all of the coaches who have played their part.”

While in Northern Ireland as part of the club’s pre-season tour, we took the opportunity to conduct our first interview with the scholarship graduate beside the Hilton Templepatrick Golf Club.
