Made to work hard
In the post-match interviews with Craig Harrison and Connor Roberts, we used the phrase ‘made to work hard’, and that most certainly was the case, as Newtown AFC were well-organised and kept going right to the very end.
Although we have registered some impressive scores along the way this season, come the final whistle at Latham Park it was the tightest of margins that separated the sides.
Like life, football is a fine line sometimes, but at least we were on the right side of it.
An own goal settled the game
It was a cruel blow for the Robins, when Josh Daniels’ cross in the 34th minute was headed into his own net by Kieran Mills-Evans.
The goal followed interaction down the right involving Brad Young and Ben Clark, before a class turn from Daniels saw the ball delivered into the box.
It was The New Saints’ 99th JD Cymru Premier goal of 2023/24.
Connor Roberts
It was another excellent game from the club’s number one, as Connor Roberts was busier than he has been in many games this season.

Although we don’t have a MOTM award for away matches, if we did then he would have been a strong contender.
Another clean sheet
It was the aforementioned Connor Roberts’ seventh clean sheet of 2024, which also reflects positively not only on the defenders, but also the rest of the team.
There were times when all ten outfield players were in and around the penalty area, ensuring that Newtown’s task of finding the net was made even harder.
As far as goals conceded is concerned, in the twelve games played this year it’s just five.
Twenty-six consecutive wins
Although the Robins came closer than many opponents since October 14 last year, nevertheless in the end the run of wins has now been extended to 26.
Of course, with Al-Hilal having recently passed TNS’ world record of 27 that was set in 2016, it’s an interesting side dish.
The only thought that will be in the minds of Craig Harrison, Chris Seargeant, the staff and players this week though will be the upcoming SPFL Trust Trophy final.
