There is certainly a focus on knockout competitions at the moment and the game on Tuesday (October 24) against Gresford Athletic in the Nathaniel MG Cup (Quarter-finals) will be the third in the space of eleven days for The New Saints.
It’s all been on track so far though, with wins against East Fife in the SPFL Trust Trophy and Ruthin Town in the JD Welsh Cup ensuring that we take to the pitch on Tuesday still competing for four trophies.
Although the JD Cymru Premier has taken a back seat, we have played one league game during this current cup-focused period, with the win against Barry Town United ensuring that we continue to lead the way at the top of the table.
Back to the Nathaniel MG Cup though and it’s a trophy that we haven’t lifted since 2017/2018, when we beat Cardiff Metropolitan University FC 1-0 at Aberystwyth’s Park Avenue.
A win on Tuesday would see us just 180 minutes away from ending that particular trophy-less run. We have to beat Gresford first though and they won’t be at Park Hall just to make up the numbers.
A run of four consecutive wins in the JD Cymru North has seen the Colliers climb to seventh in the table, and although they are eight points off the top it’s still early days yet as the league table begins to take shape.
Gresford find themselves in the last eight of the Nathaniel MG Cup courtesy of wins against Bangor 1876 (3-0) and Buckley Town (1-0), while The New Saints have progressed with victories against Connah’s Quay Nomads (2-1) and Porthmadog (4-1).
Tuesday’s encounter – which gets underway at 7.45 p.m. – will see The New Saints in green and white hooped shirts, green shorts and socks, with the visitors in all-red. The respective goalkeepers will be wearing all-purple and all-black respectively.
The officials are as follows: Nick Pratt (referee), Martin Roberts and Connor Fowler (assistant referees). John Jones is the fourth official.
