Putting to bed the previous visit to Cardiff Met FC

The last time that we visited Cyncoed Campus, things were going very well when we took a 2-0 lead, courtesy of Leo Smith and Adam Wilson.

However, it went downhill very quickly from there on and the final result was a 3-2 victory to Cardiff Met, which proved to be our only JD Cymru Premier defeat of the 2022/2023 season.

Not that players want to win any one game more than others – they want to win them all – but it was still good to put right the previous wrong with a 5-1 victory this time round.

Hit the bar… twice…

With the score still 0-0, an inch-perfect Jordan Williams cross from the right saw Blaine Hudson win the header, as he went for goal.

His effort came off the crossbar, bounced, and then immediately hit the bar again a second time.

It’s not uncommon, of course, for the woodwork to be struck during the course of a game but for it to happen twice from the same attempt isn’t something you see very often.

Great strike to break the deadlock

Receiving the ball from Josh Daniels, Jordan Williams took a touch with his right foot, turned, set himself up with his left and then let rip, giving Alex Lang no chance in the Cardiff Met goal.

In the 16th minute of the game, it was a crucial strike that allowed the visitors to then push on and another eighteen minutes later, courtesy of a Brad Young double, we found ourselves 3-0 up.

We signed him to score goals

It has definitely been a case of quality over quantity, as far as recent additions are concerned, and that has been epitomised in the signing of Brad Young.

The ex-Aston Villa striker opened his JD Cymru Premier account in style, as his two goals in as many minutes gave us a comfortable 3-0 lead.

When you consider that he hasn’t had a pre-season campaign, it’s putting it mildly to say that he’s hit the ground running.

Extending the lead at the top

Although Cardiff Met pulled one back at 3-0, further goals from Ben Clark and Ryan Brobbel secured a comfortable 5-1 victory come the final whistle.

The three points extended the lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier to five and although Connah’s Quay Nomads and Bala Town are in action later today (Saturday), with both having the incentive of reducing the lead to two and four points respectively, nevertheless it’s good to be setting the pace.

While the season is still very much referred to in its infancy at this stage, we have now completed one-quarter of the campaign.
