Ryan Brobbel

The New Saints opened the scoring in the 28th minute, when Ryan Brobbel beat the goalkeeper in the penalty area. This followed on from a tremendous strike from Leo Smith that rattled the crossbar.

Brobbel took the corner that led to the late winner and that, along with the goal and his usual overall excellent performance,  meant that he was awarded the Henstone Distillery MOTM award.

 

Ryan Astles

Another Ryan was in the spotlight as well, this time though the defender Astles.

With time running out for The New Saints, the central defender struck home from close range with just one minute to go.

We interviewed Astles after the game, and although he was disappointed with conceding a goal, he was more than happy to have secured the three points come the final whistle.

 

Connor Roberts

We’ve said it many times before in the five talking points article but Connor Roberts has done an excellent job since taking over from club legend, Paul Harrison.

Right at the death, after a period of relative inactivity, Roberts pulled off a great save to ensure that The New Saints collected the three points.

He’s also been selected for the Wales C squad as they prepare for the upcoming game against England C.

 

Leaving it late

As already mentioned, it was a late goal from Ryan Astles that secured the three points.

That shows the never-say-die attitude of the players. They keep going and they never give up.

It’s not the first time that they’ve found the back of the net right at the end and it certainly won’t be the last.

 

Almost there

The victory against Bala Town means that the lead at the top is now seventeen-points and with just six games to go, avoiding defeat on Friday against Connah’s Quay Nomads will be enough to lift the JD Cymru Premier trophy.

It will be a tough game, of course, they always are against the Nomads but with such a healthy lead, it’s not presumptuous to use the title champions-elect.
