A fantastic first-half

It was a game of two halves that ended 3-3 between The New Saints Women and Aberystwyth Town in the Genero Adran Premier on Sunday (December 4).

The first-half definitely belonged to The New Saints thanks to goals from Caitlin Chapman and Lucie Platt.

Both goals gave Greg Draper’s team a nice little cushion at the break.

Caitlin Chapman

Caitlin Chapman was certainly the stand out player for The Saints, as the Northern Irish player claimed a brace.

The first was a deflected strike from outside the 18-yard area, which went into the top corner of the net.

A second goal came just before the hour mark. Chantelle Teare passed and ball into the box and Chapman put it in at the back post.

Aberystwyth comeback

Momentum changed in the game with 30 minutes to go of normal time.

Elin Jones and Gwenllian Jones netted in the 62nd and 68th minute and took control of the match.

The Seasiders looked like a completely different team from that point onwards.

Unlike the JD Cymru Premier, there is no fourth official in the Adran Premier.

With no fourth official, players, coaches, media and supporters are left in the dark with how long is going to be added on at the end of the game.

In the end there was seven minutes of added on time.

Tania Wylde scored from 20-yards out in the fourth minute of added on time to get the leveller for the Seasiders.

Credit has to go to Gavin Allen’s team for their never give up attitude, however questions do have to be raised with where seven minutes of stoppage time came from.

Still in the hunt

After the draw, TNS are still in the mix for the top four.

Greg Draper’s team are three points behind Pontypridd United, with four games left to play in phase one before the split.

The next league game is a crucial one, as it comes in the form of bottom of the table Abergavenny Town at Park Hall Stadium on Sunday, December 18th.
