Unchanged starting XI
Obviously impressed by what he saw last Saturday against Cardiff Metropolitan University FC, Craig Harrison went for the same starting eleven this time round.
When you consider that the bench consisted of Luke Simpson, Dan Williams, Adam Wilson, Ash Baker and Gwion Dafydd, it shows that even with injuries the quality of players available to the head coach is impressive.
An early goal
We’ve become accustomed to late goals in recent weeks, as patience has been required to break down the opposition.
However, this time round we were in the third minute when Ryan Brobbel fired home from just inside the penalty area.
Set up by Declan McManus, it was a terrific volley that beat Tyler French, as the deadlock was broken in style.
Looking comfortable with fourteen minutes to go
In spite of enjoying lots of possession and creating numerous chances, Craig Harrison had to wait until later in the game before his side scored a second goal.
Great work by Danny Redmond saw the left-back dispossess his opponent and then advance in the penalty area, where he calmly and accurately beat the ‘keeper to establish a comfortable cushion.
It was his second league goal of the season and, although Danny doesn’t score many, his overall contribution to the cause is immense.
There are numerous contenders in the squad for the accolade of Mr. Consistency and, without doubt, Redmond is one of them.
Nervy last few minutes
Although having come close several times during the game, the visitors finally found the back of the net in the 90th minute.
A Sion Bradley corner from the left came off Danny Davies, as The New Saints conceded for just the second time in six games.
Fortunately though, there were no more goals as the JD Welsh Cup holders ensured that they will be represented in Monday’s fourth round draw.
The impressive form continues
The 2-1 victory against Caernarfon Town means that, since the home defeat against Dundee back in September, the side has won nine games on the bounce in all competitions.
It’s back to JD Cymru Premier action next weekend, when the players will be looking to make it thirteen successive league victories, when they take on Penybont FC in south Wales.
