A dominant performance

From start to finish, The New Saints enjoyed dominance of the game.

Although there were ‘just’ two goals to show for it, it was one of those matches where the scoreline didn’t necessarily reflect the energy and effort of the players.

Credit for that has to go to Aberystwyth Town, who were very well organised and made it extremely difficult for the visitors to find a way through.

In fact, at half-time the deadlock was yet to be broken.

 

Ben Clark

An early goal in the second period saw The New Saints get their nose in front.

It’s great to see Danny Davies back on the pitch and it was his low ball in from the right that was met by the incoming Clark.

Smashing it past Lewis Webb in the Aberystwyth goal, it was an excellent strike from the young midfielder.

As well as his overall contribution on the pitch in general, Ben chips in with goals and often key ones as well.

 

Declan McManus

After going through a goal drought, the Scottish striker has found the net in consecutive games.

What a strike it was at Park Avenue as well, as he doubled the advantage and, in effect, signed, sealed and delivered the three points.

Clean sheet

Naturally, people talk about goals but it’s also important to highlight the other end of the pitch as well.

Another clean sheet means that it’s three from four in the league where TNS’ defence has held firm.

A glance at the statistics tells us that we have currently conceded the least number of goals in the JD Cymru Premier.

Not only our defence but the rest of the team deserve a mention for that.

When the opposition has a corner, it is not unusual to see all eleven TNS players in the penalty area.

 

Early days, but…

Every manager in the league, whether at the top of the pile or occupying 12th place will tell you the same thing at this stage.

It’s early days.

Of course, with just four games played they’re absolutely correct.

However, regardless of the number, it’s better to be at the top than the bottom and that’s where The New Saints sits, with ten points from four games.

Plus, even though the win against Aberystwyth Town was MD4, it marked the 1/8th stage of the season.
