Number Eight For The New Saints

The 3-2 victory against Penybont FC at Cardiff City Stadium, means that we have now raised the JD Welsh Cup for the eighth time.

That puts us on level terms with Bangor City and Cefn Druids and two wins off Swansea City, who have lifted the trophy on ten occasions.

We’re still some distance from Wrexham AFC and Cardiff City though, who have won the competition twenty-three and twenty-two times respectively.

 

An Exciting Finish For The Neutral

Coasting along with a 3-0 scoreline, as we entered the final six minutes it was looking very good for The New Saints.

Then, with memories still very much in the mind from our last game at the stadium, against FC Viktoria Plzeň, Penybont scored twice.

Back in August, we won 4-2, this time round it was a tighter victory but, with no second-leg, the 3-2 win was enough.

It was no doubt a relief for TNS fans come the final whistle. In addition, everyone at Newtown AFC as well, who have now qualified for Europe themselves.

 

Jordan Williams

One of this season’s new signings, Jordan signed off in style, as he not only scored twice but also earned himself the MOTM award in the process.

Both goals were well-taken and whether finding the net himself or assisting others, his contribution overall in 2021/22 has been excellent.

When we were awarded a penalty with the score at 2-0, Jordan Williams picked up the ball and for a brief moment it looked as if was going for the hat-trick.

He was only collecting it for Declan though, the club’s penalty taker.

After last weekend’s spot kick that literally rattled the Caernarfon Town crossbar, it was good that the striker found the back of the net on this occasion.

Plus, little did we realise at the time just how much we were going to need that goal in the final minutes of the game.

 

Diolch Am Eich Cefnogaeth – Thank You For Your Support

The attendance yesterday (2,417) was the highest seen at a Welsh Cup final for many years.

Talking to a steward at the game, he was telling me that there were five hundred police at the Cardiff City v Birmingham City match the day before.

What a credit to Welsh football that you hardly ever see a policeman in the JD Cymru Premier.

Well done to both Penybont and TNS FC fans for the superb way that they conducted themselves.

And, for the latter, diolch am eich cefnogaeth. Thank you for your support.

There is not a game during the course of the season without a fan. When you’re at the likes of Haverfordwest and you know that people have been up at first thing and they won’t be home until very late, it really is humbling.

It is also very much appreciated by everyone at the club.
