Good To Get The Win

Revenge is perhaps too strong a word but fresh in the minds of those associated with The New Saints would be the recent (March 25) 1-0 home defeat against Newtown.

It’s always nice to right a wrong though, so to speak, and on that basis the 2-0 victory was very pleasing.

 

Ryan Brobbel

Brobz has scored numerous key goals since signing for the club and yesterday was another one. It was the touch that broke the deadlock.

Coming on as a second-half substitute, he rose to a Danny Redmond corner from the right, as his header beat the ‘keeper and ended up in the back of the net.

 

Jake Canavan

Winning a corner in added time at the end of the game, and knowing that they needed a goal to keep their European qualification hopes alive, Newtown threw everything at The New Saints, including ‘keeper, Dave Jones.

There was a goal as a result but not what the Robins wanted.

With the ball dropping to Jake Canavan, he ran from his own half with an empty net ahead of him.

Keeping his cool, as players tracked him, he took the ball forward and slotted home for his first JD Cymru Premier goal.

 

Keston Davies

We almost had a third goal to talk about and what a cracker that would have been.

In the second-half, as The New Saints attacked, the ball fell to Keston Davies, who was well outside the area.

You could see from the way he approached the ball, there was only one thing on his mind.

Bear in mind he’s a central defender though – and a very good one at that – because as he struck the ball I thought to myself, this is either going to smash the back of the net or end up in the River Severn beyond the car park.

As it was, it was neither. It had ‘goal’ written all over it though, but the fantastic strike was met by an equally superb save, as Dave Jones somehow managed to push it away.

 

The Momentum Continues

Three wins on the bounce, back-to-back clean sheets and a twenty-one points lead at the top of the table means that TNS goes in to the final game of the JD Cymru Premier season on a roll.

Of course, while it’s good to finish the league season on a high, there’s also the JD Welsh Cup final to come on May 1.

That, especially, is why the current momentum is important.
