A Good Friday Indeed
It was a Good Friday in both name and nature for The New Saints, as we recorded our biggest win of 2021/22.
The 7-0 victory against Flint Town United means the side has collected ten points from the last four games and maintains the twenty-one points lead at the top of the table.
It was also a very welcome clean sheet – they haven’t been as forthcoming as we would have liked this season.
Jordan Williams
It was great to see Jordan Williams score his first club hat-trick, as he found the net in the 45th, 61st and 86th minutes, taking his league tally to fifteen.
One of the quartet of summer signings, he’s certainly made a positive impact on the side, not just with goals either but overall contribution.
Declan McManus
Another of the aforementioned signings was Declan McManus. Having been out of the side with injury recently, it was great to see the number nine back in the starting line-up.
Not only that but, five minutes into the final third of the game, he found the net.
Business as usual.
Debuts
The Academy set-up at Park Hall is oozing with talent and that has been evident throughout the course of the season.
In particular, at yesterday’s game there were first-team debuts for Nick Grogan and Josh Lock.
Both have impressed enough to train with the team during the week recently, and then not only to make the bench against Flint Town United, but also get on the pitch in the second-half.
We normally do one post-match player interview at the end of the game but who do you choose on this occasion? More to the point, who do you leave out?
The answer was that we did three, with Nick and Josh being joined by Jordan Williams for separate chats.
While we’re talking about youngsters, let’s not forget Jake Canavan. It’s easy to forget his age sometimes as he consistently performs to a high standard.
Gathering Momentum As The Finishing Line Is In Sight
There are just two JD Cymru Premier games to go this season and then the grand finale, the JD Welsh Cup final, against Penybont FC.
The current run of form – including the convincing win against Flint Town United – means that we are currently in a good place.
We all know how important momentum is in football and everyone associated with the club will be looking to end 2021/22 on a high.
