The New Saints FC is extremely happy to announce the signing of Alex Denny, from English Football League side, Salford City.
The 21-year-old defensive midfielder was born in Chester, and began his footballing journey as a youngster with Everton FC’s Academy.
Joining the English Premier League side at the age of ten, Alex worked his way through the year groups before eventually signing professional terms with the club.
He made his debut – albeit in the final moments of the game – in style, as he featured in the UEFA Europa League game against Apollon Limassol.
Following his time at Goodison Park, he moved thirty-plus miles along the M62 to join Salford City. He has also spent time on loan at Morecambe FC, with a combined quarter of a century of appearances with both The Ammies and The Shrimps.
In addition, Alex’s talent on the pitch has been noticed by the England national set-up, having made double-figure appearances for the U-17 and U-18 teams.
With the former, he played in the 2017 UEFA European Championship, starting in both the semi-final and final.
In the final, England drew 2-2 with Spain in open play – with goals from Callum Hudson-Odoi and Phil Foden – before eventually losing out on penalties.
Alex will be wearing the number 16 shirt at The New Saints and there will be an in-depth interview with our latest signing in due course.
Speaking to club media, Alex told us: “I’m delighted to sign for The New Saints and I’m looking forward to helping the team on the JD Cymru Premier run-in. Hopefully, we can go on to be successful and win the league.”
TNS’ Sporting Director, Gary Brabin, shared his own thoughts on the signing:
“I coached Alex at Everton’s Academy when he was 13/14 years old. He is a big, strong competitive midfielder, who is comfortable in possession, with a good footballing education having come through the academy system, as well as representing England at numerous age groups.
“He is a good honest lad, who always gives his all, and has had a good start to his professional career.
“He’s at the point though, where he needs regular competitive football, and a place to settle down that will become his footballing home.
“We believe The New Saints will provide that platform for him.
“We all wish Alex the very best.”
We also spoke to Head coach, Anthony Limbrick, who told us:
“We’ve observed Alex closely during the short time that he has trained with us and we’ve been impressed.
“I look forward to working with Alex and developing him as a player.
“He’s a strong character, with a good attitude, and will be a great asset to the squad.”
