No Goals Conceded In Over Five Hours
From the start of the second-half at the Cyncoed Campus against Cardiff Met, to the 87th minute against Port Talbot at Victoria Road, we didn’t let a goal into our net, showing how strong we are defensively.
This defensive run has largely been down to keeping the same backline in the form of Sarah Parkes, Faye Marshall, Charlotte Turner, Jen Jarvie and the captain, Beth Lewis.
Keeping Met goalless in the second forty-five at the Cyncoed Campus gives us hope this can be done against the other big teams in all competitions moving forward.
Plenty Of Chances
We had plenty of shots at the Port Talbot goal on Sunday which is a great positive. With lots of chances created, it shows that we can get in the right positions but we just need to finish.
The Penalty Incident
In the 82nd minute, Emily Ridge was in the Talbot box and got delivered a big tackle as she had the ball. There were a lot of calls for a spot-kick to be given, but nothing was. Ultimately, the momentum in the game was changed from that point onwards, as Hayley Williams’ team scored two goals.
A Good Overall Week
If you take into context the week as a whole, it was a very positive one. We got our very first competitive win of the season in the FAW Women’s Cup against Wrexham at Colliers Park, and also a first league victory last Wednesday at home against Aberystwyth. The players can take great confidence from those two performances.
Still In Contact With The Rest Of The Teams
Even though we are bottom of the table, we are very much in contact with a lot of teams. Pontypridd, who are in fourth, are only three points ahead of us, and that shows the amount of difference that one victory can make in the context of the table.
