The Perfect Start To The League Season Comes To An End
After four consecutive JD Cymru Premier wins, the 1-1 draw against Penybont means that the 100% start to the current campaign has ended.
The New Saints was the last club to have the distinction of a perfect start, but along with Bala Town, is still one of two unbeaten teams in the league.
In comparison to last season, TNS not only won the fifth game of the campaign, but went on to add two more victories before a draw ended the impressive start.
It’s Close At The Top
Although the draw ensures that The New Saints continues to lead the way at the head of the table with thirteen points, the lead is now just down to a solitary point.
Wins for Flint Town United and Barry Town United over the weekend, puts them in second and third place, with twelve and ten points respectively.
The Linnets are the visitors to Park Hall this coming Saturday and depending on results could find themselves at the top. Or Flint Town United could be leading the way. Or The New Saints could be back to a healthy lead. Or it could be as you were for the top two.
There’s a lot to play for and we shall see come the end of MD6.
Declan McManus
The club’s leading scorer this season grabbed his ninth of the season, as he fired home in the 84th minute.
With a disallowed goal as well in the second-half, the striker could well have been celebrating a match-winner, as opposed to an equaliser.
It was the 99th goal of his professional career and we talked about that in the post-match interview in south Wales. It’s true to say that the signing of Declan McManus has been an inspired one.
Depth Of Squad
TNS made three substitutions during the game and when you consider that Danny Redmond, Ryan Brobbel and Ben Clark replaced Leo Smith, Tom Holland and Ash Baker respectively, that in itself tells you how strong the squad is.
Now that there is just the JD Cymru Premier and JD Welsh Cup to focus attention, if Anthony Limbrick can keep his squad relatively injury-free he will no doubt be more than happy with what he has at his disposal.
Talking of Ryan Brobbel, it’s great to see him back in action again. After completing the full ninety minutes against Llanrwst United, he played the final twenty-eight minutes in south Wales.
A Draw, A Fair Result?
This is where it gets very subjective for many people. It’s difficult to say unless you were at the game and saw the whole match. There were TNS supporters there by the way, which was brilliant to see, as it is a long journey across Wales.
Some will maybe be happy with the point, others perhaps disappointed that it wasn’t a win.
However you look at it, if you can’t win then make sure that you don’t lose.
