An Then There Was One
Ahead of JD Cymru Premier MD3, there were three teams with a perfect start to the season. Following MD4, it’s just The New Saints that has a 100% record.
Although it’s still early, and you can’t read too much into positions at this stage, nevertheless it’s a three-point gap at the top for TNS.
Returning Players
When we ask Anthony Limbrick about squad availability during our in-house press conferences, invariably there is a mention of injured players.
Although it’s a natural reference, it’s also good to recognise that individuals are also coming the other way as well.
On that note, it was great to see Ryan Astles and Tom Holland both in the starting line-up against Flint Town United.
The Performance On The Night
Even when The New Saints win, there’s always the post-match question that we put in interviews as to the performance.
It’s good to win but it’s even better to do it in style.
Following the 1-0 victory against the Silkmen, Anthony Limbrick’s reaction was positive. He acknowledged that his side played ‘fairly well’ and highlighted several specific points from the victory.
Clean Sheets
Last season, The New Saints conceded just seventeen goals in thirty-two league games. After leaking four in the opening two this time round, it’s been good to get back-to-back clean sheets.
Both games have been won 1-0, as well, highlighting just how important a watertight defence has been in the Haverfordwest County and Flint Town United encounters.
The Fans
It’s been great to see supporters back in Welsh football. Early indications are that overall attendances are up and let’s hope that this is a continuing trend as the season unfolds.
Supporters are the lifeblood that runs through the veins of the beautiful game. That’s true in any league and the JD Cymru Premier is no exception.
To celebrate the return of fans – and to acknowledge the role that they play in the domestic game in Wales – that’s the lead image from last night.
