Since his appointment just over a week ago, naturally the club’s new head coach has been in the spotlight. With his first game in charge being televised, the media platform was extended further.

He communicates well and he comes over confidently. More importantly though, he hit the ground running as far as results are concerned, as The New Saints secured all three points.

Both on and off the pitch, it’s been a good few days for the new man in the Park Hall hot seat.

What a few weeks it’s been for the Northern Ireland U-21 international. Having been out since last September, his return to the side has been highlighted not only by quality performances, but goals as well.

That was the case at Maes Tegid, as his early opener proved to be the only goal of the game.

It’s great to see him picking up where he left off, and with a busy schedule between now and the end of the season, his return has been at just the right time.

 

Clean Sheet

The 1-0 win against Bala Town was the fourteenth clean sheet of the JD Cymru Premier season for The New Saints. In percentage terms, that’s 61% of matches in 2020/21 in which the club has kept the opposition at bay.

As far as current form is concerned, it’s just one goal conceded in the last four games.

Not surprisingly, TNS has the best defensive record in the league. Having been breached on thirteen occasions so far, that’s two better than Connah’s Quay Nomads, while the third-placed team as far as tight defences are concerned, Penybont FC, have conceded twelve more.

 

Four Wins On The Bounce

Concerning current form, with four straight wins, the club leads the way with that statistic as well. Three teams (Cefn Druids, Flint Town United and Newtown AFC) have one win to their name in the last game, while Penybont FC has won the last two.

The one team with three straight victories is Barry Town United, who will be the next opposition, when The New Saints travel to south Wales on Tuesday (April 13).

 

Top Of The Table 

After several weeks sitting in second, courtesy of the result at the Deeside Stadium on Saturday just gone when Connah’s Quay Nomads were beaten 2-0 by Penybont FC, TNS is back on top of the pile.

It’s just goal difference that separates Anthony Limbrick’s Saints and Andy Morrison’s Nomads though and with nine games to go – including home and away fixtures featuring both clubs – there’s still plenty at stake.
