With so much going on – more off the pitch, as on it, at times in the last year – it seems like the dim and distant past when we travelled to Maes Tegid for the first time this season.
In effect, it was September 30 last year, so just over five months ago. Although The New Saints started well, it was the Lakesiders who found themselves 2-0 up by the 29th minute.
A goal from Chris Venables, with fifteen minutes gone, was followed by a deflection, as a Will Evans shot came off Jon Routledge.
Just after the two-thirds stage of the game though, the visitors were back in it. What a goal it was as well. Leo Smith picked up the ball in his own half, then skipped a number of challenges, before unleashing a terrific strike, that gave Alex Ramsay no chance.
With just three minutes to go, Ryan Astles smashed home at the back post to score his first goal, or so he thought, for The New Saints, as he levelled the score.
However…. within a minute, the floodlights had failed and the game was eventually abandoned. The goals were wiped and we went again five weeks later, when the final score was 1-1.
