The New Saints FC Foundation and Academy have been really pleased to be able to support a fundraising initiative organised by The Marches School. This year the School’s chosen charity is Ethos Housing – a charity providing adapted, short-term accommodation and advocacy support for people with life-changing physical disabilities in Oswestry. They also assist in the search for suitable, long-term homes with an aim to have everyone learning to laugh, to work and to make new friends.
From 8th – 12th February, the School hosted an online fundraising event based on a traditional village fete, offering students the opportunity to take place in various activities, games, and challenges, with the opportunity to win prizes whilst raising money for the charity, and approached the Foundation to see if we could help them in any way.
The Foundation and Football Club have been delighted to be able to offer their support to the event by donating to the football skills challenges competitions, which were launched by video by Head of Coaching, Chris Seargeant on 8th February. Students were encouraged to submit videos of them demonstrating their football skills and various tricks and challenges, which were then judged by Chris, with the help of First Team players Greg Draper and Simon Spender.

3rd place went to Harvey, who has won a signed TNS football. 2nd place went to Martin who has won a signed TNS football shirt. Joint first places were awarded to Livvy and Grace who will each receive a 1-1 coaching session with the Club’s Academy coaching team (as soon as Covid-19 restrictions allow), as well as the chance to mascot a First Team game once restrictions allow. Congratulations to the prize winners and to everyone who took part – the judges were really impressed by the number of entries, and the skills shown.
Foundation Manager Gill Jones said: “We’ve been really pleased to be able to support this fundraising effort by Marches School, particularly at a time when lockdown restrictions make community fundraising efforts so difficult. We’re sure the students will have had great fun taking part, and we understand the School has so far raised well over £2,000 for Ethos Housing, which is fantastic – we’re delighted we have been able to contribute towards this. The initiative has also been a great example of the Foundation, Football Academy and First Team working together to benefit the local community and our partner schools”.
