The scorer of TNS FC’s first competitive goal this season – in the 3-1 win against MŠK Žilina – added two more to his collection, as he opened the scoring this time round, in the fourth minute, followed by a second a quarter of an hour later.
Although he will be disappointed not have grabbed a hat-trick, nevertheless he will be more than happy with the contribution that he made to yet another three points for the side.
Greg Draper
Two goals in the second-half, not only secured the win, but also ensured that Greg extended his league goals scored figure to 158. He said, following the setting of the club record last weekend, that he was eyeing up 200. On this form, it would take a brave man to bet against the popular striker.
Goals Galore
After playing just six matches, The New Saints proudly displays twenty-five in the goals scored column. That’s an average of more than four per game and with goals coming right through the side, Scott Ruscoe will be more than happy with the distribution.
With nine different names on the score sheet so far, that’s impressive. In addition, the aforementioned Draper and Robles lead the way in the JD Cymru Premier goal scoring charts, having found the net seven and five times respectively.
The Clean Sheets Continue
Yet to concede a goal in the current league campaign, that means Paul Harrison has gone 540 minutes without being beaten, and that doesn’t include added time at the end of each half.
The performance in south Wales was another one where the defence looked solid, and that will please Steve Evans, in particular.
It was also great to see Blaine Hudson get back on the pitch, as he returned from injury. Replacing Ryan Astles in the 59th minute, he came through with flying colours.
The Young Players
With Ben Clark in from the start, and Beau Cornish and Lewis Rees coming on as second-half substitutes (74th and 67th minute respectively, the future looks very bright indeed as far as the younger members of the squad is concerned.
David Lyon was also on the bench. Incidentally, he scored a hat-trick on that very pitch while playing for Newport County.
In addition, it sends out a positive message to the Academy as a whole that the pathway to the first team is a very real one.
