This weekend we’re on the road to Caernarfon, as we take on the Canaries, at the Oval. Since their 2018/2019 return to the top-flight, there have been several games between the sides.

Who can forget, however, the 2014/2015 Welsh Cup third round encounter – the one that will be forever remembered as ‘the day the wall came down’. The match was watched by a crowd of 1,250.

Still in the Huws Gray Cymru Alliance – the regionalised second tier of Welsh football – as it was then known, Caernarfon Town took the lead following a Nathan Craig free-kick.

Lee Dixon’s side then went 2-0 to the good, in the 25th minute, with a fantastic strike from Darren Thomas. The surge of the crowd proved too much for the pitch perimeter wall, however, and it gave way as the fans instinctively rushed forward.

Although there was a delay in proceedings, no injury was suffered by anyone, and in these days when crowd trouble is often an issue, it’s worth pointing out that there was nothing untoward going on whatsoever.

Three goals in eight minutes at the end of the first-half from Mike Wilde, Chris Marriott and Jamie Mullan saw The New Saints take a 3-2 lead into the break.

The second period was quiet, both on and off the pitch, and although David gave his very best, on this occasion it was Goliath who triumphed.
