The run of excellent form continues

The 4-1 win against Barry Town United means that we extend our unbeaten run, in all competitions, to nine games. Although an impressive figure in itself, when you consider that it is made up of eight wins and just one draw, that highlights just how emphatic the statistics really are once you begin to break them down into individual facts.

Four goals and four names on the score sheet 

Once again, the goals were distributed through the side, with Ryan Brobbel, Dean Ebbe, Aeron Edwards and Jamie Mullan all scoring one each. It’s one of the reasons why we are so difficult to play against because any of the outfield players can find the net.

All of the goals were well-taken in their own right, but without doubt, the one that stands head and shoulders above the other three was Jamie Mullan’s wonder-strike. To fully appreciate the goal, you have to take into consideration that Jamie collected the ball in his own half, ran on and then unleashed a rocket of a shot from outside the penalty area that gave the ‘keeper no chance. The fourth and final goal, it was definitely the icing on the cake.

Goals conceded 

Although it wasn’t a clean sheet, nevertheless let’s not get too despondent about the goal conceded. You can’t focus on one issue and ignore the solid performance and the three points. In addition, it’s always important to see the big picture, and on that front it means that we have conceded just two in seven games. That works out at one goal every 315 minutes. Not bad is it, when you look at it like that.

The lead at the top extends

Combined with Connah’s Quay Nomads’ first defeat of the season against Cefn Druids, the three points at Jenner Park ensures that we now have a four-point lead at the top of the JD Cymru Premier. It’s still tight though, and if they win their game in hand, Bala Town would be second and there would be just a three-point margin.
