Seasiders’ fans – or indeed anyone associated with the club – won’t need reminding of the last time that they played The New Saints. The game, on an incredibly hot August afternoon, witnessed a double-figure scoreline, as Scott Ruscoe’s side left Park Avenue with a 10-1 victory to their name.

The result was the perfect bounce-back, following the previous week’s 3-1 defeat at Maes Tegid, when Bala Town took all three points on that occasion.

Back to the Aberystwyth game though, and in the opening exchanges the home side were more than unfortunate to find themselves 3-0 down by the half-hour stage, as they certainly had their fair share of opportunities.

The opening goal for The New Saints was scored by Billy Whitehouse in the seventh minute. The likeable Yorkshireman went on to complete his hat-trick, in the 29th and 48th minutes.

Other goals were scored by Kurtis Byrne, Adrian Cieslewicz, Dean Ebbe, Adam Hughes and Jon Routledge, with Greg Draper adding a brace.

Hughes’ goal was the final one, as the reigning JD Cymru Premier champions wrapped up the points in style. Shortly afterwards, along with Connor Roberts, Hughes joined Aberystwyth on loan.

They have both been doing well, and of course, will be ineligible for the game this Friday (November 15) at Park Hall.
