Last week’s exit from the UEFA Champions League against FC Copenhagen, wasn’t the end of European football for The New Saints FC, as the side dropped into the other UEFA competition, the Europa League.
The first leg game, against the current champions of Bulgaria, Ludogorets, has a local 8.30 p.m. kick-off time. With the U.K. two hours behind, for those following the match from ‘home’, it will commence at 6.30 p.m.
The host venue, the Ludogorets Arena, was originally the site of the Dyanko Stefanov Stadium, which was constructed in 1954. It has gone through a restructure programme in the last ten years and now has a (just) five-figure capacity.
The club itself, although birthed at the end of the Second World War, emerged afresh in 2001, following financial issues with the previous incarnation.
Like The New Saints, Ludogorets is currently on a streak that has seen the side win eight domestic top flight titles on the bounce.
The club has fared very well in European competition, with wins against the likes of Hoffenheim (2017/18), Red Star Belgrade (2016/17) and PSV (2013/14), to name just three impressive results.
