Today (Sunday, January 20 2019) a squad of 11 Performance Phase players travelled to Rhyl in the Welsh Premier League Development League (North) writes Steve Benyon.
With a high number of players being ill or injured, the squad was down to a basic eleven, but each of them were fantastic and a credit to the club and to themselves.
Playing on a difficult pitch, we played some good football, attacking and hurting the Rhyl back-line, and we were awarded a penalty after a foul on the impressive Tai Jones.
Tai duly despatched the resulting spot kick to send us 1-0 up. However, a mix-up at the back and confusion as to whether the player was offside, allowed Rhyl to hit back through a great strike to level the game.
We ended the half very strong, with numerous chances, including Aaron Lloyd hitting the post.
We were dealt a blow though with James Rutter limping off thirty minutes in, meaning we would have to play the remaining hour with ten men.
The second half saw a mix-up which resulted in a second for Rhyl, but we responded well through a Jenson Jones goal after a great whipped ball in from Alex Cadman to Luis Edwards, who then cut back to Jenson.
We huffed and puffed but couldn’t find a deserved winner and the game ended 2-2.
Full credit to the players for giving everything on the pitch. We now turn our attentions to a Category 2 game against second in the table Solihull, followed by top of the table Cefn Druids in their own backyard next Sunday.
Today’s squad:
