Saints Women Book Their Place In The FAW Women’s Cup Round 2 After A Fine 3-0 Win Against Wrexham

The New Saints Women claimed their first win of the season in the FAW Women’s Cup with a 3-0 victory over Wrexham AFC Women. 

Lucie Platt scored the first goal deep into stoppage time in the opening forty-five. Goals in the second-half came from Lexie Harrison and Caitlin Chapman. 

Andy Williams’ side dominated the match throughout and were unlucky not to get more balls in the back of the net. 

In the second minute, Caitlin Chapman had a shot in the box which was met by a fine save from Delyth Morgan. 

Moments later, there were consecutive chances for Lucie Platt and Francesca Scott. Platt missed the target, before Scott’s chance was saved by Morgan. 

Lauren Reese had an opportunity not long after from 25-yards out that went over Sarah Parkes’ goal, as the game remained goalless.  

Scott had the chance to score in the tenth minute, but her shot in the Wrexham penalty area went wide of the goal. 

Again the TNS number nine almost found her first of the game three minutes later, but a header towards goal from inside the box was saved by Morgan. 

Lia Lewis had a shot from distance a couple of minutes later, an opportunity again caught by Morgan in the host’s goal. 

Soon after, Reese had a chance on the edge of the box for the Red Dragons that Parkes met with a fine save. 

Just past the half-hour mark, Tonicha Dickens got a shot in the TNS box from a corner that blasted over the goal. 

A couple of minutes on, Lucie Platt had a chance from just outside the 18-yard area that hit the crossbar as TNS continued to knock on the door. 

In the 38^th minute, Scott went one on one with Morgan, however the forward was offside. 

Lauren Reese had a free-kick from 35-yards out seconds later that just went over The Saints’ net. 

In first-half stoppage time, TNS took the lead as Lia Lewis passed the ball across the box to Lucie Platt, who found the back of the net. 

Scott almost got her first goal of the game in the final knockings of the half, as she hit the ball in the Wrexham 18-yard area, with the chance just going wide of the post. 

At the start of the second forty-five, Red Dragons’ substitute, Lucy Scott, had a shot from the edge of the box that Parkes saved easily. 

54 minutes in, Caitlin Chapman whipped in a free-kick from just outside the box that found Francesca Scott who headed the ball at the goal with Morgan making the catch. 

Before the hour mark, Chapman ran into the box and shot, as Morgan saved to keep the Northern Irish player at bay. 

In the 62^nd minute, Lexi Harrison scored a screamer from 25-yards out which hit the keeper’s top left side of the net and gave the Adran Premier side a two-goal lead. 

With a quarter of an hour to go, Scott had a strike from inside the box which hit the post. It was followed up by Caitlin Chapman though who tapped it into the net for a TNS third. 

In the 84^th minute there were chances for either side as a Scott shot for TNS got saved by Morgan, while at the other end, Rosie Hughes forced a save from Parkes.

Andy Williams’ team now face Aberystwyth Town Women in the Genero Adran Premier at Park Hall Stadium on Wednesday evening.
