The New Saints Women suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Wrexham in the Genero Adran Premier at Park Hall Stadium.

Substitute, Faye Knox, scored the only goal of the game in the second-half for the visitors to claim the three points in a tight encounter.

Sunday’s results means The New Saints stay fourth on 24 points in the Adran Premier Championship Conference.

Not long into the encounter Wrexham were on the front foot, as Pakistan international, Mariam Mahmoud, had a long-range effort that was palmed away well by West Bromwich Albion loanee, Orla Howard.

In the ninth minute, Kelsey Richardson hit a 25-yard free-kick for The New Saints, which Liz Craven managed to save.

Five minutes, the visitors returned on the attack, when Katie Barker managed to get a shot away following a corner that narrowly went over the crossbar.

Just past the half-hour, the Saints had a good passage of play that led to a Lexi Jones effort from close-range that fired wide, but showed promising signs for Kieran Lee-Birch’s team.

Wrexham had a chance at the start of the second 45, when Barker ran through on goal and had an attempt, however the ball went wide of the net.

Saints were making the game a battle, as in the 54th minute, a free-kick from just outside the box found Gibraltar international, Caitlin Chapman, at the front post, who hit wide.

Moments over the hour, it was the Red Dragons turn to attack in this back-and-fourth match, when Mahmood ran through on goal, and had an attempt that went wide.

Wrexham took the lead in the 67th minute, when a number of ricochets on the defence fell for substitute, Faye Knox, who ran through and scored from close-range.

TNS pushed for an equaliser later on in the game, but just missed out as Wrexham walked away with the win.

Next up for TNS is a trip to the Swansea.com Stadium to take on Swansea City in the penultimate match of the season on Sunday, March 29th.
