The New Saints Women moved back up to fourth in the Genero Adran Premier table following a 3-1 victory over bottom of the league, Pontypridd United.

Efa Jones initially gave the Dragons the lead, before goals from Caitlin Chapman, Izzy Redding, and Emily Ridge won The New Saints three points.

After Pontypridd gave The Saints a scare early on, Greg Draper’s team took full control of the game and dominated play to earn a third consecutive victory.

Pontypridd United took the lead in the seventh minute of the match after a pass back by The New Saints fell to Eva Preece-Jones, who struck the ball first time into the net from close range.

A Saints equaliser came not long later, as Caitlin Chapman scored past Klaudia Wojtyzcka from inside the 18-yard area, despite Wojtyczka getting a touch on the ball.

The Saints came close to a second in the 19th minute, where Chapman whipped in a corner that found Izzy Redding, who headed inches wide at the back post.

Before the half-hour mark, Emily Ridge played a through ball to Chapman, and the number 17 got an effort away inside the box, but Wojtyzcka made a great to stop to keep the game all-square.

The Oswestry-based team took a 2-1 lead in the 36th minute, as Redding netted in a header following a Chapman corner that found the centre-half in the box.

Another Saints attack came soon after through a Chapman shot from not far out that Wojtyzcka managed to keep out.

Just before half-time, Georgia Griffiths hit an effort from distance that forced Wojtyzcka into a stop once more.

Draper’s continued their dominance at the start of the second 45, as Chapman put a pass through to Ridge, who shot wide from close range.

The Saints got a third goal of the game in the 55th minute, where Georgia Griffiths played a through ball to Ridge, who tucked the ball past Wojtyzcka’s bottom-left.

Ridge thought she grabbed a brace and TNS’ fourth ten minutes later when the 31-year-old netted an attempt on the rebound, however the flag went up for offside.

Late on in the game, Chantelle Teare had an effort from not out that went over the crossbar, but it didn’t make too much difference with three points secured.

Draper’s team are next in action against Rhyl 1879 on Sunday, December 3rd in the Genero Adran Trophy round of 16 at Park Hall.
