The New Saints Women ended 2021 on a high as they defeated Connah’s Quay Nomads Women 4-0 at Park Hall Stadium.
A Lexie Harrison spot-kick and a Lucie Platt goal gave Andy Williams’ team a 2-0 lead in the first forty-five. Caitlin Chapman and Georgia Griffiths then scored in the second-half to seal victory.
The result is The New Saints’ biggest victory of the season and sends the team to the quarterfinals of the Genero Adran Trophy.
Connah’s Quay Nomads had the first real opportunity in the opening minutes of the game. Francesca Scott ran with the ball and shot in the box; however the former Saints forward was denied by a great Sarah Parkes stop.
Not long after, Lucie Platt had a shot in the 18-yard area that Charlotte Bolland picked up.
On the quarter of an hour mark, Nomads captain Kirstie Kural had a free-kick from 25-yards out that Parkes caught.
In the 21st minute, Emily Ridge hit the ball in the penalty area with the chance met by a fine save from Charlotte Bolland.
A couple on Saints took the lead. Ridge went down in the box as the referee pointed to the spot. Lexie Harrison then stepped up and scored past Bolland’s top left.
Just before the half-hour mark, Andy Williams’ team scored another. Georgia Griffiths slotted the ball into Platt who slotted into an empty net.
Two minutes later, Kylie Jones had an effort from outside the box that went wide.
In stoppage time Jones had another chance, as she had a header that Parkes caught.
The final chance of the half came from Helen Evans who hit the ball from just beyond the 18-yard area as outfield replacement keeper Jade Scott saved the attempt.
At the start of the second forty-five, Platt had a shot from 20-yards out that went wide.
In the 51st minute, Caitlin Chapman passed the ball to Harrison in the box who hit the side netting.
Three minutes on, Kural shot wide in the penalty area for Nomads.
Soon after in the 56th minute Chapman made it three. The Northern Ireland under 19 international hit the ball in the 18-yard area and the chance found a way past the keepers bottom right.
Just past the hour mark, Chapman made a great cross into Harrison who hit just wide. Moments on Platt had an attempt from 35-yards out which hit the crossbar.
In the 70th minute, brilliant passing lead to a Georgia Griffiths shot in the box that just went wide of the post.
Ten on, Harrison squared the ball to Chapman who hit wide of the post.
The final goal of the game came in the 88th minute. Griffiths pick pocketed the Connah’s Quay defence and slotted the ball into the net with ease past the keepers left.
