Met Comeback Defeats Saints At Park Hall

Cardiff Met WFC came from 2-1 down to win 6-2 at Park Hall Stadium against The New Saints Women’s FC.

Met took the lead through a Jen Jarvie own goal but Andy Williams’ recovered as Faye Marshall and Helen Evans netted home. The away team scored five in the second half with Lauren Townsend hitting home from the spot. Then the Archers hit four goals from two braces by Ellie Preece and Laura-May Walkley.

In the opening minutes, Ellie Preece ran through on goal and shot as Sarah Parkes stopped the attempt.

In the 9^th minute, Amy Long ran in, collected a through ball and found the back of the net to score, however the flag went up for offside.

Cardiff Met took the in the 12^th minute when Long delivered a ball in the box and unfortunately Jen Jarvie tapped the cross into her own net.

A couple of minutes on, Lilly Whitefoot pulled off an excellent through ball to Faye Marshall who scored past Annabel Sweeney’s bottom-left as The New Saints levelled.

In the 17^th minute, Emily Ridge shot in the box as Sweeney managed to save.

Two on, Lauren Townsend shot from a free kick for Met from just outside the 18-yard area that Parkes caught.

In the 26^th minute The Saints took the lead, Helen Evans ran with the ball brilliantly and shot into Sweeney’s top-left.

Just over ten minutes later, Preece had a shot in the box that Parkes caught.

A minute on, Laura-May Walkley had a chance from 20-yards out for the Archers which hit the crossbar.

Just before the break, Walkley put the ball in the net within the box, however she was offside.

At the start of the second forty-five, Elianna Chavez had an opportunity for the away side from just outside the penalty which Parkes picked up easily.

Before the hour mark, Chavez had a shot in the box that was hit wide.

In the 60^th minute, substitute Olivia Thompson hit wide of the post from outside the penalty area for Met.

A couple on, Sophie Hancocks had an effort for the Archers from 25-yards out that blasted over the crossbar.

In the 64^th minute, Lia Lewis brought down Long in the box as the referee pointed to the spot. The following minute Townsend converted as she hit the penalty past Parkes’ top-right.

Seven minutes later, Preece ran in on goal slotted the ball past Parkes to give Met a 3-2 lead.

In the 76^th minute, Met took a two-goal lead as Chavez passed the ball across goal to Walkley who hit into an empty net.

Three minutes on, Walkley scored once more as a scramble in the box saw the no.8 shoot home from point blank range.

In the 82^nd, Met got a sixth as Long collected a through ball and scored past Parkes’ right in the box.

Towards the end of normal time, substitute Megan Lane had a shot for Andy Williams’ team from 20-yards away as the opportunity drifted from goal.

TNS will next be in action against Aberystwyth Town Women’s FC on Sunday 28^th of November.
