Teare brace helps Saints Women overcome Archers at Park Hall

The New Saints Women claimed a first victory in phase two of the Genero Adran Premier, as Greg Draper’s team overcame Cardiff Met 3-1 at Park Hall Stadium.

Chelsea Cochrane gave Met the lead, before a Chantelle Teare brace and a Mel Barlow strike turned the game around for The New Saints.

The three points and Sunday’s other result in the Adran Premier Plate going in favour of The Saints means a return to the top of the Plate standings for the Oswestry-based team.

In the opening moments of the game, Chantelle Teare had an effort for The New Saints from close range that Carys Gittins managed to stop.

Teare had another effort at goal in the 16th minute, this time from the near post, but Gittins denied the number nine one more.

The visitors were on the attack not long later, as Emily Bayliss had an effort from 20-yards out that went wide.

Cardiff Met took the lead in the past the half-hour, as Chelsea Cochrane netted a deflected strike from inside the box.

However, Greg Draper’s team soon got on level terms a couple minutes later when Beth Lewis crossed a ball into the box that found Teare, who netted from close distance.

Before half-time, The Saints took the lead, as Mel Barlow hit a magnificent strike from just outside the box that found it’s way into the bottom corner of the net.

TNS got a third in the 54th minute, where Nicole Samson played a pass across the box to Teare, who scored from six-yards out into Gittins’ bottom-left corner.

Just past the hour mark, Ellie Suckley made a fine stop to deny the Met attack from point-blank range and kept the visitors at just the one goal in the game.

A fourth almost came for the Oswestry team in 65th minute, as Barlow hit the crossbar from a free-kick 35-yards away.

Soon after, Tilly Edge had an effort from the edge of the box that was stopped by Gittins in the Met.

Daniel Delahay’s team were back in TNS’ end of the pitch in the 71st minute, as Emily Bayliss hit wide from outside of the 18-yard-area.

In the 74th minute, Nieve Jenkins came close for the Students again, with the 22-year-old hitting a strike from 20-yards out that was met with a great save from Suckley.

Just before the final whistle, substitute, Ellie Hill, had a strike from inside the box that hit the post. It was the last opportunity of the encounter, with TNS claiming the three points to move back to the top of the standings in the Adran Premier Plate.

Draper’s side are next in action against Pontypridd United at Park Hall Stadium in the Adran Premier this Wednesday (March 27th).
