Saints Women secure Genero Adran Premier Plate following victory over Barry

The New Saints Women secured the Genero Adran Premier Plate on Easter Sunday with a 3-0 victory over Barry Town United at Park Hall Stadium.

Izzy Redding and Emily Ridge found the back of the net, before Lauren Harris scored an own goal at the end of the first-half.

It was a third consecutive Adran Premier victory for Greg Draper’s team.

The New Saints made a quick start to game by taking the lead in the 13th minute, as Beth Lewis whipped in a corner that found Izzy Redding, who headed the ball past Erin Brennan from close range.

Greg Draper’s team made it 2-0 soon after in the 19th minute, with Chantelle Teare playing a pass across the 18-yard-area that found Emily Ridge, and Saints’ striker connected with the ball first time to double the lead.

Just past the half-hour mark, Barry skipper, Chloe Tiley, hit a free-kick from 25-yards that Ellie Suckley managed to gather, as the visitors had their first shot on target.

Another effort came for the Linnets in the 36th minute, with Taite Trivett snatching at an effort from 20-yards away that went away from goal.

Trivett had another shot at the net in the 40th minute, as the Barry number seven hit the ball from inside the box, but Ellie Suckley was there to make an excellent save.

In the 43rd minute, Trivett came close once again, this time the 20-year-old’s shot hit the side netting.

Before half-time, it was the Oswestry team that found the net to make it 3-0. Beth Lewis whipped in a corner, with the ball ending up being put in the Barry net by the number two, Lauren Harris.

Stevie McCarthy-Campbell’s team went pushing for a goal at the start of the second 45, as Aimee Deacon had a long-range effort that went wide.

Before the hour, Barry had another chance. Hana Bennett crossed in a corner that substitute, India Shanahan, connected with, but the ball went over the net.

Barry had another effort in the 65th minute. Bennett played a pass across the penalty area to Shanahan, who shot wide from a few yards out.

In the 80th minute, Mel Barlow fired a free-kick at the Barry net from 20-yards away, which narrowly went over the crossbar.

Before the end of the game, Ridge had an effort one-on-one, but the attempt was saved well by Brennan.

It was the last action of the game as TNS secured the Plate.

Draper’s side’s next match is away at Pontypridd United in the last Adran Premier game of the season on Sunday, April 7th.
