Saints Women Off The Bottom With A Goal In Each Half

The New Saints FC Women claimed their first win of the Genero Adran Premier season with a 2-0 victory over Aberystwyth Town Women’s FC. 

Both goals came in either half, Caitlin Chapman scored directly from a free-kick in the first forty-five minutes, and Lexie Harrison netting a 30-yard chip in the second-half. 

It was a fairly even affair throughout the match, however The New Saints were the clinical team who took the chances available. 

The Saints move off the bottom of the table with three points, while Aberystwyth Town stay fifth. 

In the opening couple of minutes in the game, Caitlin Chapman had a great shot from outside the box that was met by a fantastic save from Ffion Ashman, with the ball hitting the crossbar as Francesca Scott missed the follow up. 

A minute later, Libby Isaac had a shot in the box for the Seasiders, however the forward missed the net completely. 

Isaac had another chance not long after from just outside the 18-yard area that deflected wide. 

In the 16^th minute, Caroline Copper whipped a ball in from a corner for Aberystwyth which found Amy Jenkins who headed wide of the post. 

Three minutes later, Isaac had a shot in the box for the Black and Greens that Sarah Parkes saved nicely to keep the score goalless. 

Lucie Platt passed the ball across the goal to Chapman in the 25^th minute as Chapman scored, however the flag went up on Platt for offside. 

On the half-hour mark, Chapman took a free-kick from 25-yards that went past everyone and found the back of the net, as The New Saints took the lead. 

Under 10 minutes before half-time, Isaac had another chance in the TNS box for Aberystwyth as Parkes managed to make the catch.  

At the start of the second forty-five, Copper had a wild attempt for the away side from just outside the penalty area which went over the crossbar. 

In the 50^th minute, the visitors had a chance through Amy Jenkins just outside the box with the ball going wide of the post. 

Five minutes on, Gwenllian was slotted a through ball and shot in the 18-yard area, however Parkes stood up strong and saved the ball from going in the net. 

Soon after, Scott played a pass through to Lucie Platt, as Platt ran in the box and shot just wide of the post. 

On the hour mark, Lexie Harrison chipped the keeper excellently to score from 30-yards away to double the TNS lead. 

Gavin Allen’s side were up the other end of the pitch soon after, with Jenkins having a shot from just outside the box that hit the post and went wide. 

In the 78^th minute, Scott had a shot in the Aber penalty with the opportunity just off target. 

As time was running out in the game Gwenllian Jones had an attempt from outside the box that didn’t trouble Parkes with the shot wide of the net. 

Deep in the match, Isaac had a chance in the 18-yard area for the Seasiders that went over the crossbar. 

Andy Williams’ team will now go on to face Port Talbot Ladies FC at Victoria Road on Sunday.
