The New Saints Women were 3-0 up at half-time against Abergavenny in the Genero Adran Premier, when the referee decided to abandon the game because he deemed the pitch too frozen to resume.

In the first-half, Caitlin Chapman got a brace and Emily Ridge netted just before the break, but in the end it came to count for nothing.

Lucie Platt had the first chance of the game for The New Saints Women in the 6th minute, where the no.10 had a shot from 25-yards away that Charlotte Hastings managed to gather.

Abergavenny were up the other end of the pitch in the 13th minute, as Menna Churcher had an effort that Sarah Parkes saved.

The New Saints took the lead moments on in the 14th minute. Dani Staley played an excellent through ball to Platt, who passed the ball across the box to Caitlin Chapman, where the no.17 slotted the ball into Hastings’ bottom-left.

Chapman got a brace, as The Saints went 2-0 up in the 31st minute. Hastings kicked the ball to Chapman and the Northern Irish player slotted a shot into the corner of the net from outside the box.

Greg Draper’s team came close to a third soon after. Helen Evans squared the ball to Staley and the winger had an attempt that deflected wide from close range.

TNS did get a third just before the break in the 43rd minute. Evans passed an excellent ball across the box to Ridge and this season’s top scorer netted from point-blank range.

At half-time, the match was abandoned when referee, Arthur Smallman decided that the pitch became frozen since the start of the game.

TNS are next in action away at Swansea City Ladies on Sunday (January 22) in the Adran Premier.
