An Emphatic 10-0 Victory Against Flint Town United At Park Hall

Greg Draper became The New Saints’ all-time leading league goalscorer, as his side recorded an emphatic 10-0 victory against Flint Town United at Park Hall.

Leading 3-0 at the break, Scott Ruscoe’s side added a further seven goals to their tally in the second-half, as they maintained their unbeaten start to the JD Cymru Premier season.

Next up for The Saints, it’s another home fixture, as Newtown make the short trip to Park Hall on Tuesday.

After a couple of good chances in the opening stages, it took until the 18th minute for the first goal of the game to arrive and it came from the penalty spot.

After Flint goalkeeper, Jon Danby, had brought down Louis Robles inside the box, Greg Draper stepped up and dispatched the resulting penalty expertly to open his account for the afternoon. 1-0.

And with 33 minutes played, Ruscoe’s side were celebrating again, when Jon Routledge doubled their lead with a well placed finish inside the box. 2-0.

Two minutes before the half-time whistle, the ball was in the back of the net once more and it was Draper grabbing a second of the match, tapping home Robles’ rebound. 3-0.

Following the restart, it wasn’t long before Draper was making history. Again a close range finish, the ball hit the back of the net to lift the New Zealand international above Mike Wilde and become The New Saints’ all-time leading league goalscorer with 154 goals. 4-0.

The Saints weren’t done there though and Ryan Harrington got in on the act to score a goal on his birthday. Carrying the ball out of defence, the number 16 played a 1-2 in midfield, before continuing his run, and rounded things off with a well placed finish. 5-0.

And it only took two more minutes for the sixth goal to come. To nobody’s surprise though, it was Draper once more, connecting with Mullan’s low cross on the edge of the six-yard-box to score his fourth of the match. 6-0.

Louis Robles nodded home from two yards out to make the score 7-0 shortly afterwards, before Routledge added an eighth with his second finish of the match. 8-0.

Draper still wasn’t finished there though and increased his tally for the day to an incredible five in the 85th minute, after he was presented with an opportunity too good to miss by Robles. 9-0.

And in the first minute of second-half stoppage time, Kwame Boating rounded off the scoring, stabbing home from close range after the ball fell his way inside the area, giving The New Saints a 10-0 victory on an incredible afternoon at Park Hall.
