The New Saints made it three league wins from three after defeating Barry Town United at Park Hall Stadium.

Despite Craig Harrison’s side controlling the majority of proceedings, there was just a single goal separating the sides at the final whistle, with Ryan Brobbel’s sixth-minute strike securing a 1-0 victory.

As a result, the Saints moved nine points clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier table, with second-placed Connah’s Quay Nomads not in action until later in the day.

It took just six minutes for the opening goal to arrive at Park Hall, and it was the JD Cymru Premier champions who made the breakthrough.

Jordan Williams controlled Dan Williams’ lofted pass inside the penalty area before cleverly backheeling the ball into the path of Ryan Brobbel.

Taking the strike first time, the Northern Ireland Under-21 international made no mistake in slotting the ball past George Ratcliffe to open the scoring.

Craig Harrison’s side continued to control proceedings throughout the first half, and with 25 minutes gone, Isaac Jefferies tested the goalkeeper with an effort from distance.

Just seconds later, Ratcliffe came to his side’s rescue again, racing out quickly to deny Eoin Farrell from close range after the midfielder was played through by Brobbel.

Dan Williams and Jefferies had further chances to extend the TNS advantage before the interval, but despite their dominance, the Saints went into the half-time break with only a single-goal lead.

Picking up where they left off after the restart, leading goalscorer Jordan Williams tried his luck with a 49th-minute snapshot from just outside the penalty area, but the effort sailed high over Ratcliffe’s crossbar.

Steve Jenkins’ side had a rare opening on the hour mark when Eoin Farrell brought down Robbie Willmott 25 yards from goal.

Eliot Richards stepped up to take the resulting free kick, with his effort narrowly clearing Nathan Shepperd’s crossbar.

At the other end, Rory Holden curled narrowly wide in the 62nd minute after a good run from Jefferies, as the league leaders pushed for a second to put the match to bed.

Twelve minutes from time, Harrison’s side almost found the decisive goal following a surging run down the left flank from Danny Davies.

After a mix-up between two visiting defenders, the Wales C international benefited from a threaded pass by Jefferies, but once again Ratcliffe stood tall inside the penalty area to deny him.

Despite failing to find a second goal, the defending champions remained firmly in control throughout and comfortably saw out the remaining minutes to secure all three points.

The New Saints return to action at Park Hall in a fortnight’s time when they host Penybont in front of the S4C cameras.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30pm on Saturday, February 7th.
