It was a great victory for The New Saints Women in South Wales as Kieran Lee-Birch’s team beat Swansea City 1-0 at the swansea.com Stadium.
A Lexie Harrison goal in the second 45 was all that separated the two team.
In the Adran Premier Championship Conference table, The New Saints are now own 26 points in fourth with one match to go.
The New Saints had the first good opportunity of the match in the ninth minute, when Chantelle Teare ran into the box, and passed the ball to Lexi Jones, who shot narrowly wide of the post.
Swansea City came narrowly close in the 14th minute to taking the lead at the other end in the pitch, as Taite Trivett passed a ball across to the retiring Stacey John, and the number 12 connected with the ball at the front post before the danger was cleared by Kieran Lee-Birch’s team.
Not long later, Matilda Edge played a great over-the-top ball to Lexie Harrison, who ran through on goal and had a shot from inside the box that was stoped by goalkeeper, Amelia Forkings.
Past the half hour, Ellie Lake ran down the right-hand side for the hosts and crossed a good ball in that found Sammy Wynne in the box, who shot first-time towards goal, however Orla Howard was there to make the save.
The Swans had another attempt at goal in the 35th, as John intercepted the ball in the midfield and shot from long-range, with the ball going wide.
In the 40th minute, another effort came from 35-yards through Aimee Deacon, and the strike from the 18-year-old forward flew inches away from the net.
It was Yzzy Taylor’s team that continued to be the ones pressing moments on as a John effort on the edge of the box looped over the crossbar.
Shorty before the break, Chloe Chivers tried her luck with a shot for the Swans from outside the box which Howard dived down well to get to the ball.
A few minutes into the second-half, Teare tried her luck from range for The New Saints, as the attempt went wide.
Inthe 56th minute, it was Lake’s turn for the Swans to have a go from distance, it ended up the same outcome with ball off target.
Shortly after, John tried a good attempt for the hosts from outside the box that was dropping into the goal, before Howard did brilliantly to palm it away.
Before the hour, Saints went up the other end and attacked, when Harrison hit the post from inside the box.
TNS took the lead in the 66th minute, when Teare crossed a ball into the box that found Harrison in the 18-yard area, who struck the the ball from close-range and the effort deflected into the net.
Swans looked to bounce back following the restart, as Jessica Williams got a connection that hit the post and went wide after a corner from Chloe Chivers.
Right at the end of the game, Tiggy Webb headed the ball and it ran all the way through to substitute, Maria Ewers, who just missed the target.
It wasn’t to make a difference as TNS walked away with a fantastic three points.
