It was Swansea City who tasted victory in tonight’s Genero Adran premier fixture, as they defeated The New Saints 3-0 at the M&P Group 3G.

Aimee Deacon’s penalty, and Chloe Chivers’ close-range finish, gave Izzy Taylor’s side a comfortable lead at half-time.

Ellie Lake added a third for the home side seven minutes after the restart, and from there, the Saints were unable to find a way back into the game.

With both sides battling for the early ascendancy, it took a while for the first chance of the night to arrive.

In the 12th minute, though, it was almost The New Saints who broke the deadlock after a superb run by Lexi Jones.

After surging down the left, the number 11 sent an inviting ball across the face of goal, but Caitlin Chapman couldn’t quite connect.

Down the other end, Mackenzie Haydn-Jones made a smart save at the near post three minutes later following a long-range effort from Chloe Chivers.

With 25 minutes played, Chantelle Teare did well to beat the offside trap, but home goalkeeper Amelia Forkings was quick off her line to deny the TNS number nine in a one-on-one situation.

There was another opportunity for the home side shortly after, but again Haydn-Jones stood firm to keep out a volleyed effort from Maddy Murray.

The deadlock was eventually broken in the 34th minute, as Aimee Deacon stepped up to convert a penalty after being fouled by Mia Davies.

Izzy Taylor’s side had the momentum at that point and doubled their advantage seven minutes before the break.

After beating Davies to the ball, Chivers had an initial strike saved by Haydn-Jones, but the Swans’ number 10 was on hand to convert the follow-up effort.

Going in at half-time trailing by two, Kieran Lee-Birch’s side were dealt a further blow just seven minutes into the second half, as the home side increased their advantage further.

Ellie Lake’s long ball into the box caused problems for the TNS defence, and despite Deacon attempting to get her head to the ball, it evaded everyone in the area before bouncing directly into the net.

Despite the setback, Lee-Birch’s side kept their heads up and had several opportunities to get back into the game.

In the 54th minute, Lexi Jones fired wide from the edge of the penalty area, before substitute Zara Gibbs had an effort blocked inside the six-yard box 10 minutes later.

Chantelle Teare had the chance to make it 3-1 moments later, but after an inviting cross from Gibraltar international Chapman, the number nine failed to get a clean connection on the ball.

As they looked to extend their advantage further, the home side remained a threat in the closing stages, with Haydn-Jones denying Chivers with a smart stop in the 67th minute, and Maddy Murray heading wide from a corner three minutes later.

Seven minutes from time, Swansea substitute Emily Richards sent a free kick wide from distance, and that proved to be the last chance of the night.

The New Saints take a departure from league action this Sunday (January 18th), as they take on Cardiff City in their rearranged Genero Adran Trophy semi-final.

Kick-off at Park Hall is scheduled for 2pm.
