A difficult day at Victoria Road

Saints lose to two late goals away at Victoria Road. Match report by Michael Davies.

The New Saints Women succumb to a 2-0 defeat against Port Talbot Town Ladies at Victoria Road in the Genero Adran Premier through two late goals.

Both goals came late on in the contest through Coryn Sexton and Freya Davies.

The match a tight affair, where both teams had opportunities throughout, and The New Saints will feel hard done by that they didn’t collect a point.

The Saints end the day bottom of the table after Port Talbot started the game behind on goal difference.

In the opening minutes, Francesca Scott had a shot from outside the box that was blocked by Hayley Williams’ defence.

Port Talbot had their first chance in the 16^th minute of the game, Jess Denscombe ran into the 18-yard area of the box and blasted the ball over the goal.

Seconds later Emily Ridge ran up the other end of the pitch after a collecting a through ball and hit the post, however the flag went up for offside.

A few minutes after, Lucie Platt had an effort from 20-yards out that Emily Roberts saved.

In the 26^th minute, Scott had a shot in the 18-yard area that Roberts tipped away.

A few moments on, Beth Lewis had an opportunity from just outside the Port Talbot penalty area, with the chance going wide of the post.

Ten minutes before the break Jess Denscombe collected a through ball and shot wide of the post in the box for the home side.

At the start of the second forty-five, Platt had a header in the opposition’s box that Roberts caught.

In the 65 minute, Caitlin Chapman had a shot from the edge of the box that Roberts managed to get hold of.

With fifteen left Port Talbot showed warning signs hit the crossbar from a header in the TNS box.

In the last few minutes of the match, Coryn Sexton had a shot from just outside the box which found it’s way past Sarah Parkes to give Port Talbot the lead.

In the dying moments of the game, Talbot doubled their lead as Freya Davies scored in the 18-yard area.

Andy Williams’ team will next be in the FAW Women’s Cup action against Cardiff City next Sunday at Park Hall Stadium.
