The New Saints made an immediate return to winning ways, as they defeated Flint Town United 3-0 at the Essity Stadium.

It was a match in which Craig Harrison’s side looked comfortable throughout, and they went into the half-time break with a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Ben Clark and Jordan Williams.

Williams was on target again nine minutes into the second period to seal the victory and send his side 12 points clear at the top of the JD Cymru Premier table in the process.

As both teams battled the challenging conditions, there were chances at both ends in the early stages of the match.

With three minutes gone, Jack Flint pulled off an important save to deny Danny Redmond, before Jordan Williams came to his side’s rescue to clear an effort off the line following a corner.

It was the visitors who did score the first goal of the game though, and it arrived in the 18th minute after a superb assist from Redmond.

Playing the ball into the path of Ben Clark, the Academy graduate made no mistake as he slotted past the goalkeeper to give his side the lead.

Craig Harrison’s side kept up the pressure, and with 32 minutes played, they were rewarded with a second goal.

Taking the ball into his stride with a good first touch, Jordan Williams shrugged off a couple of defenders just inside the penalty area, before sending a superb curling finish behind the reach of Flint and into the back of the net.

There was almost a third for the league leaders four minutes before the break, as Jordan Marshall cut inside from the left.

Getting a powerful right-right-footed shot away, the former Dundee man could only find the side netting, however, much to the relief of the home supporters.

With 54 minutes on the clock, the TNS third did arrive though, and it was Jordan Williams at the double.

The number 17 was in the right place at the right time to capitalise on Isaac Lee’s misplaced header and poked the ball beneath the goalkeeper from the edge of the six-yard box.

Flint made a rare foray forward in the 67th minute, but Nathan Shepperd got down well to his left to prevent an effort from Alec Medimu from finding the bottom corner.

Seventeen minutes from time, Williams almost helped himself to a third hat-trick of the season after receiving the ball from substitute Josh Daniels, but his first-time finish was narrowly wide of Flint’s right post.

The former Stockport County man had another opportunity in the 82nd minute, but headed over following Dan Williams’ free-kick, before Redmond drilled an effort wide from the edge of the ‘D’ moments later.

That proved to be that as far as chances were concerned though, and the league leaders were forced to settle for a 3-0 victory on the road.

The Saints take a break from JD Cymru Premier action next weekend, as they travel to Cardiff Met in the third round of the JD Welsh Cup. Kick-off at Cyncoed Stadium is scheduled for 7:45pm.
